Two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo on Saturday led Real Madrid to prevail over Eibar 2-1 in the 28th round of La Liga, avoiding losing more ground to the first two teams in the Spanish top-divison football table.
The home side dominated the first 30 minutes and created several chances to break the deadlock but against the run of play, a delightful Luka Modric pass sliced through the Eibar defence for Cristiano Ronaldo to open the scoring.
Eibar defender Ivan Ramis had seemingly done enough to secure a point for the home side that would have left their visitors trailing second-placed Atletico Madrid by six points, but Ronaldo struck in the 84th minute to rescue the win and ensure Valencia can not leap above them later on Saturday.
In the 84th minute, Pedro Leon gave away possession too easily, allowing Modric to feed Daniel Carvajal out wide.
"He knows he's going to score, he's unique and special".
Zidane added: "Neymar is a very good player".
'The numbers speak for themselves and I'm just glad he is with us.
Real move four points behind second-placed Atletico Madrid, who can restore that gap to seven with a win over Celta Vigo on Sunday.
Victory means Zinedine Zidane's side have won eight of their last nine matches in all competitions, but still trail LaLiga leaders Barcelona, who have a game in hand, by 12 points.
It happens to the best of them, just ask Gary Lineker.
In front, Real improved but five minutes into the second half and Eibar were level.
Isco and Kroos made way for Karim Benzema and Lucas Vazquez with 19 minutes left but Eibar had two golden chances to score a second.
Real Madrid's form prior to the last 16 clash against the French giants raised many questions as to whether they could withstand the attacking strength of Unai Emery's side.
