The South Miami-based firm that designed the ill-fated bridge is getting a lot of heat - probably even more so because it is led by and consists of all women.
"From a safety perspective we don't see that there's any issue there, so we're not concerned about it from that perspective", Denney Pate, with FIGG bridge engineers, said in the voicemail, which FDOT released to the public, "although obviously the cracking is not good and something's going to have to be, ya know, done to fix that".

It swiftly went up in six hours under the "accelerated bridge construction" method, although the entire project wasn't to be completed until 2019.

It's yet to be determined if the cracking was the cause of the collapse.
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio said the tightening of the bridge's inner cables could have contributed to the collapse.
At a meeting before the accident an engineer from Figg, the contractor that built the bridge, said that the damage did not compromise its "structural integrity", Florida International University said in a statement.
Figg Bridge Engineers said that it will fully cooperate with every appropriate authority in reviewing what happened and why. He said he couldn't confirm earlier reports that workers were specifically "stress testing" the span at the time of the collapse. The north end of the bridge remained in the street, a pickup crushed beneath it, the bodies already removed. "From a safety perspective, we don't see that there's any issue there".
The warning was left in a voicemail that was only heard Friday because the recipient of the call had been out of the office on assignment, the Florida Department of Transportation said. Brownfield was not involved in the FIU bridge project, the Miami Herald reported.
A vigil is scheduled Wednesday on campus.
"On Thursday morning (March 15, 2018), at 9:00 a.m., the Design Build Team of MCM [the contractor] and FIGG, convened a meeting at the MCM trailer, located on the construction site, to discuss a crack that appeared on the structure".
Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., told "Meet the Press" on Sunday that the National Transportation Safety Board is testing the salvaged concrete as part of its investigation.
