Baylor, with just one loss on the year, fell to a No. 2 seed.
A potential Elite Eight matchup between SC and UConn would pit two of this year's top prospects against one another. It's the ninth time that UConn has entered the NCAAs undefeated, including a year ago when the Huskies went in as the overwhelming favorite before their 111-game winning streak ended with a loss to Mississippi State in the Final Four.
Toughest region: It's actually a tough call. The Atlantic Coast Conference was next with five in the Top 25. Looming as a potential Sweet 16 matchup is No. 3 seed Ohio State, which features senior prospects Kelsey Mitchell and Stephanie Mavunga.
All in all, it's a balanced bracket. This might be one of coach Muffet McGraw's finest accomplishments as Notre Dame lost four pivotal players to injury, but only three games on the season. But the Fighting Irish haven't made the Final Four since 2015 and are pretty clearly the weakest top seed.
No matter the frustrations over how their hearts were broken, Notre Dame has already picked itself off the floor and moved on. Buffalo, Creighton, Minnesota and Oklahoma got in. Interestingly, the Big East's two other teams, Marquette and Villanova, will face two of the top mid-majors in the field, Dayton and South Dakota State. Purdue, Rutgers, Southern Cal and West Virginia were the first four teams out. So the Scarlet Knights can't be thrilled. Yes, and the Cardinals are probably as happy as their fans that they could play in a regional so close to home. It's a small thing - and a trade Louisville would likely make to stay at home, but it's a loss.
Northern Colorado: The strongest seed of any of the five teams making their NCAA tournament debuts, No. 10 Northern Colorado heads to Waco, Texas, with a legitimate chance to compete against No. 7 MI in the first round. Look out for Mercer, which has a favorable draw as No. 13 seeds go.
Notre Dame enters the tournament as the top seed in the Spokane Region, but when it comes to seniors to focus on, we begin at the bottom portion of the bracket. Instead, they hit the road as the No. 5 seed in Athens.
Which way do we go? .
Stanford potentially is headed to Lexington for the third straight year if it can advance. But given that Sherri Coale is more willing than most coaches to go to hard places, losing this season at South Dakota State, hopefully this bid at least sends a message about scheduling.
UConn's remarkable streak of 10 consecutive Final Four appearances is at risk this season, since SC is one of the premier programs in the country and possesses a top player in forward A'ja Wilson.
No. 2 seed OR features sharpshooter Lexi Bando, who ranks second in the NCAA at 47.3% shooting from beyond the arc (69-146). Baylor, Texas and OR all are farther away than SC. "We have a little agreement here, he owes me three bottles right now for winning the league championship, regular season and three for winning the conference tournament title". The Huskies are making their 30 consecutive appearance in the tournament and have advanced to the regional semifinals in each of the last 24 seasons.
Tip-off is scheduled for 11 a.m.
