Congress leaders who were being led by Rahul Gandhi had observed a day's fast at Mahatma Gandhi's memorial Rajghat to protest against the ongoing violence during a "Bharat Bandh" called by Dalit groups protesting against what they believe the dilution of a law meant to protect them from atrocities. The CPI contingent included its State assistant secretary JV Satyanarayana Murthy, and leaders AJ Stalin and Vimala. They didn't let Parliament work for a single day.
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, is on fast today, and has urged the lawmakers of the country to support him in this movement.
All the party MPs will also be sitting on a fast in their respective constituencies.
