This update is being done so that people don't get bored of the monotonous robotic voice that the Assistant already has. The technology allows Google to turn popular voices from the likes of John Legend, and others, into voice that powers your Google Assistant interactions with smartphone or Google Home. Up until now, creating a new voice took hundreds of hours in a recording studio. All the new voices are powered by WaveNet, which is an AI-based voice synthesizer created by Google UK's subsidiary DeepMind.
