The annual commemoration of Nakba Day, which this year will take place on May 15, marks the day when approximately 760,000 Palestinians, estimated today to number about 5.5 million with their descendants, fled or were driven from their homes.

Last December, US President Donald Trump sparked global outrage when he unilaterally recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital and vowed to relocate Washington's embassy to the city.
The Israeli-annexed eastern sector of Jerusalem is sought as a future Palestinian capital - at least by those supporting Hamas' political rival, West Bank-based Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
But Hamas leader Yehiyeh Sinwar contends that Israel's borders are not internationally recognized and therefore do not need to be respected.
She warned that the USA move will encourage Israel to accelerate its attempts to erase the Palestinian presence from occupied Jerusalem by destroying their homes and stealing their land for illegal settlements. More than two-thirds of Gaza residents are descendants of refugees.
From there, smaller groups moved closer to the border fence.
Several flaming kites were flown over the fence by demonstrators, sparking blazes in Israeli territory.
Israeli soldiers fired live rounds and volleys of tear gas.
"People will be coming back to work as the embassy branch of the Jerusalem embassy, and I think we're all very happy and excited to be participating in such a historic event", Friedman said.
Meanwhile, Gaza government officials announced that Egypt will open its border with Gaza for four days starting Saturday.
