Charlie Jacobs, son of Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs and CEO of Delaware North's Boston Holdings, Boston Marathon race director Dave McGillivray and Bill Richard, co-founder of the Martin Richard Foundation, announced plans for the first MR8K race at TD Garden on Labor Day, Sept. 3.
The Harvard junior had played a grand total of 12 National Hockey League games and, in the one playoff contest in which he participated, it was hard to get a gauge on his performance as the Bruins blew out the Toronto Maple Leafs in that Game 2.
Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman said he expects the Bruins to play their best game of the series Friday night, which echoed what was being said in the Boston dressing room. The Lightning have utterly controlled play at five-a-side with a 58.7 shots for percentage, 57.1 Corsi for percentage, 57.3 scoring chances for percentage and dangerously close to 66 percent of the high-danger chances. During the regular season, however, the trio outscored opponents 14-11.
In San Jose, the Sharks scored twice in the first period en route to a 4-0 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights that tied their Western Conference series at two games apiece.
TURNING POINT: The first period was just horrendous for the Bruins. Unforced turnovers gave the Lightning two outmanned rushes that became goals in the Bruins' 4-2 loss in Game 2. "You got to defend better".
After the game, Cassidy was more concerned with the amount of Grade-A chances being allowed, but did not rule out a personnel change on the third unit without mentioning any names.
"I feel good", Point said of his performance. "We'll assess them in the morning, and we'll probably tinker (with the lineup), but I'm not going to tell you who is going in or out now because we've got to get the healthy guys sorted out first, and then we'll go from there". So we'll have the conversation tomorrow.
"I think their "D" sensed the pressure and then they turned the puck over a little bit", said forward Cedric Paquette. "If [Heinen-Nash-Backes] stay in, obviously, they need to be better". The discussion (Tuesday) centered around secondary scoring. The first they were outplayed all game. That's where my issue lies. "You need to bring something else to the table". The Boston roar will be loud tonight and should give the players that extra juice to go on and punish this Tampa team. Tampa Bay could not practice at TD Garden because the Celtics were hosting the 76ers in the National Basketball Association playoffs. Here's one stab at it.
The Bruins actually haven't been all that proficient when they have had the puck, either: Through two games, they've attempted 75 shots, only 44 of which have reached Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy. David Krejci was booted from the faceoff circle just a couple minutes later, leaving Jake DeBrusk to try to win a defensive zone draw.
Then take another look at the Rick Nash, Riley Nash, Backes combination that was tried in the Toronto and had its intriguing moments. "I guess in the end they're just putting the team first - putting team before self - that's what's going on right now".
Is Donato ready to carry this team?
He robbed Reilly Smith early in the game and delivered big saves throughout.
But this is Tampa Bay. The lone goal came off of the stick of Steven Stamkos, a empty-net goal to secure the Game 3 victory. Seguin was pedestrian the rest of the way but his skill got them over a hump.
