Tom Cruise is officially back in the cockpit.
The Cruiser posted a picture of himself in front of a fighter jet with the slogan "Feel the need", harking back to the 1986 smash hit movie's motto about US Navy fighter fighter pilots and their need for speed. There is an awesome role for Maverick in the movie and there is no Top Gun without Maverick, and it is going to be Maverick playing Maverick.
"It's going to be a competition film like the first one, and it's going to be in the same vein and the same tone as the first", Cruise told Access Hollywood a year ago, with "the need for speed and big, fast machines".
Cruise, 55, captioned the post with the hashtag #Day1, hinting that the crew has begun filming on the long-awaited sequel.
For the longest time, there were reports of a storyline about drones and the pilots who fly them starting to make old school fighter pilots like Maverick obsolete.
Cruise writes #Day 1 of production of "Top Gun: Maverick".
Top Gun: Maverick is scheduled to be released by Paramount Pictures on July 12, 2019. Kosinski previously worked with Cruise on 2013's Oblivion, a visually stylish sci-fi film where Cruise works on a seemingly abandoned Earth.
