"I am focused 100% on bringing this city together and uniting Chicago around a set of policies that will reverse gun violence, end this carnage, improve our schools and provide tax fairness to working people".
Chicago Police officers and detectives investigate a shooting where multiple people were shot on Sunday, August 5, 2018 in Chicago, Illinois.
Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson planned to discuss the violence at Monday news conference.
The first fatal shooting happened just after midnight when a masked gunman killed one man and wounded a woman in the Altgeld Gardens neighborhood on the Far South Side.
Police on Monday attributed the dozens of shootings to gangs, the illegal flow of guns and sweltering August heat that drew more people outside. Of the wounded who reported an age, the oldest was 62 and the youngest 11, police records show.

Johnson said there are some leads, but no arrests had been made. They hold me accountable, they hold the mayor accountable, they hold the city council accountable - where's their accountability?
Additionally, Ford noted that the inaction of the Chicago Police force has caused a distrust to brew between citizens and the people that are supposed to protect them.
"Since 2011, he's failed", Caldwell said of Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
The ad concludes with images of striking teachers demonstrating in front of City Hall, with LaRaviere proclaiming, "But in February, Chicago gets a chance to tell him what he's been telling us: Get the hell out".
Mr. Emanuel called on residents to "be a neighbor" and step forward if they knew anything about the perpetrators. I also categorically disagree that Democrats - as Guiliani suggested - are responsible for Chicago's tragic gun violence. "Therefore, all of us who love this city and call it home have a responsibility to heal our neighborhoods".
But although June marked 15 straight months of fewer killings and shootings, on 25 June, at least 21 were shot and two died. "But we still have a lot more work to do, and I think that was evidenced by this weekend".
