Other Twitch Prime benefits will not be changing.
Advertising is an important source of support for creators who make Twitch possible. "This change will strengthen and expand that advertising opportunity for creators so they can get more support from their viewers doing what they love", the blog post states. 14, ad-free viewing will no longer be available for new members.
Twitch recently announced that it was going to can ad-free viewing as part of Twitch Prime.
To activate your Twitch Prime account, all you need is an active Amazon Prime subscription, which most people have.
The discount program, which launched back in January 2016, gave Prime members a 20 percent discount on all video games ($12 on a $60 game) during pre-order periods and within the first two weeks after release. If you are a Twitch Prime member you are now able to go into any stream you want, whether you are subbed to that streamer or not, and go into it without having an ad greet you. All eligible pre-orders placed before August 28 will still recent the 20 percent discount, but after that, the new benefit will be in place.
And it's not just the Prime pre-order discounts that are disappearing either. Any existing member on a monthly basis will be given a little leeway until October 15th when it will start.
Twitch Prime members, meanwhile, will still be able to receive independent games and access special emotes.
Put more simply: Even Twitch Prime paying subscribers will see ads on Twitch streams. If you are a Prime member, you have until August 28th to get your pre-orders in while the discount is still valid. That all changes starting September 14th (unless you're now on an annual subscription, in which case, this begins once your subscription renews). And it's these free offerings that are being cited as a replacement for ad-free Twitch viewing.
