The "Victory Fridges" and free Bud Light beer reigned supreme in Cleveland on Thursday after the Browns beat the Jets 21-17. Taylor struggled getting to his feet after being dragged down by linebacker Avery Williamson, but he had absorbed several hard blows before that - and had been ineffective.
"I feel good. We finally put the pieces together", said Mayfield. The Browns sealed the win when cornerback Terrance Mitchell intercepted a deep pass Darnold intended for Anderson with six seconds left. Mayfield caught a pass from Landry on a variant of the Eagles' famous "Philly Special" for a two-point conversion to tie it at 14. But after getting off to a bad start, Taylor suffered a concussion in the second quarter, which opened the door for Mayfield, who woke up a team that was trailing 14-0 when he jogged onto the field to raucous cheers at FirstEnergy Stadium.
He replaced Taylor who left with a concussion.
Despite all that, Browns head coach Hue Jackson was not ready to name Mayfield the team's starter after the game, saying he needed to watch the tape first.
Taylor's injury may change everything.
The Jets went 65 yards in 12 plays for a 28-yard Jason Myers field goal to lead 17-14 with 8:58 remaining, setting the stage for the Browns' winning drive. He completed his first two passes - a 14-yard pass to Jarvis Landry and a 17-yarder to David Njoku - to move the Browns downfield. Crowell's celebration after his second touchdown will surely not please the fans of his former team.
Taylor is now considered as day-to-day with a concussion and his availability for next week's road game against the Oakland Raiders is currently cloudy. Then, the real action started for the Browns.
This game also quickly became the Isaiah Crowell #RevengeGame, as the Jets running back scored the first two touchdowns of the contest. The Browns let Mayfield go to work, and he kept on dicing up the Jets' defense with some terrific throws.
The Browns suspended radio reporter Nathan Zegura eight games for his conduct on the sideline during last Sunday's loss at New Orleans.
Meanwhile, the Jets will be seeking redemption that same day in Jacksonville.
