The new design shows off "more rounded shapes, new icons and a new color palette", aimed at boosting your productivity, says the company. The Chrome search box ("Omnibox") also gives you more information directly as you type. Interestingly, the iOS app now has the address bar on the bottom of the screen, just like the "Chrome Home" UI that was in development for a year on Android but ultimately cancelled.
Aside from fixing 40 security issues of varying severity (but none critical), Chrome 69 comes with an improved built-in password manager that automatically generates a random password when users sign up on a new website.
The developer team has worked to improve the way Chrome fills in passwords, addresses and credit card numbers.
Plus, there's another bonus as, if you find yourself with a huge array of tabs open across three browser windows, Chrome will now tell you a website is already open and let you jump straight to it with "Switch to tab".
The updates don't stop there, and Google has further refined its Omnibox - the search bar at the top of the browser. Chrome is celebrating its 10th anniversary with an entirely new aesthetic, which brings tweaked browser tabs, a customizable New Tab page, and a revamped suggestions menu, among other things.
If you keep a ton of tabs open all the time, you'll notice that Chrome does a better job of marking each site's icons (or favicons) in each tab.
You can now create and manage shortcuts to your favorite websites directly from the new tab page-simply open a new tab and "Add shortcut."
Chrome usually gets updated every six weeks, but on the browser's 10th birthday, Google is going the extra mile in the enhancement department.
Much of the new design centers on rounding out the search experience (pun intended). "Already, we're working on integrating augmented reality (AR) into Chrome to bring information that you interact with across the web and put directly into your physical environment", shared Rahul Roy-Chowdhury, VP, Chrome and Chrome OS. In addition, the "New Tab" page now includes a plus button titled "Add shortcut" that essentially allows you to add a custom shortcut.
Overall, the Mac and iOS updates for Chrome are a welcome change.
Along with this updated appearance, Google has now changed the popular search feature from within the address bar.
