He thanked her for her friendship, noting that he knew it would continue beyond the time they had in Mexico.
Colton Underwood will be the one handing out roses come January, as ABC has tapped him to be The Bachelor's Season 23 suitor. The news of the former National Football League player becoming the next star of The Bachelor comes just one day after Colton broke up with Tia on Bachelor In Paradise.
"I'm very excited", Underwood told Strahan. She added a few hashtags including #peaceoutparadise and #hotdogsforever, and it sounds as if this Bachelor in Paradise contestant is relieved that everybody finally knows where things stand for her in regards to Colton.
"That's what I'm looking for ... being engaged and then getting married shortly after that", Underwood said, per People. "That's what I'm hoping for".
Minutes after the announcement was made, fans of the show took to social media to complain about the pick for 2019, with many believing runner up Blake Horstmann deserved to be the next Bachelor, while others who had been campaigning for Jason Tartick tweeting their objections.
But not everyone was upset with ABC's pick for the new leading man, with one saying: 'I knew Colton was going to be the Bachelor, I'm so happy, ' and another claiming she was 'packing her bags to audition for the show'. He also briefly dated former Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman.
Underwood's college team, the Illinois State Redbirds, congratulated the 26-year-old on his looming public search for love. Colton broke down in tears while breaking up with Tia.
Congratulations to Colton, or better yet, good luck.
