Mega Millions fever is building in the United States lottery - with the biggest prize in history up for grabs at US$1.6 billion (AUD$2.25 billion).
But with Mega Millions at a United States record $1.6 billion, you could say Powerball's potential payout after Saturday's drawing is just a measly $476 million. The winning numbers were: 16, 54, 57, 62, 69, and Powerball 23.
The next Mega Millions drawing will be on Tuesday. Mega Millions is now offering a potential prize of $1.6 billion.
The jackpot has been rolling every drawing since July 27, when it started at $40 million.
One Powerball ticket sold in CT is now worth $1 million after Saturday's drawing.
The victor might opt for the cash prize of more than $270 million, from which the federal government will take 25% right away, and more later.
With the ball changes, the odds of winning the jackpot went from 1 in roughly 258 million to 1 in about 302 million.
"It's hard to overstate how exciting this is - but now it's really getting fun", said Gordon Medenica, lead director of the Mega Millions Group and director of Maryland Lottery and Gaming.
For an extra $1 you can get a "Power Play" ticket in which you can increase the amount of the smaller prizes, but not the grand prize. There are smaller prizes, from $2 up to $1 million, for matching some, but not all, numbers.
The consortium of lottery officials is holding its next conference call Monday morning to analyze ticket sales from over the weekend to determine whether it can up the jackpot.
