The Virginia health insurance market for 2019 has improved for many individuals compared to their current 2018 plans.

Whether you are thinking about changing health insurance plans or purchasing new coverage, the State Corporation Commission's (SCC) Bureau of Insurance encourages Virginians to review their health coverage needs and thoroughly explore all their options, especially when considering short-term, limited-duration (STLD) health insurance plans.
"We're talking about how DE, in particular, could create recommendations to make sure we're protecting everyone to get coverage that they need and not be pushed into plans that really don't give them coverage, except maybe some catastrophic coverage", she said. She also said that the flattening of premiums, and insurers expanding geographic coverage in Georgia, have added stability to the exchanges.
"For Delawareans who don't have access to health insurance through an employer or another form of coverage, the Health Insurance Marketplace offers them an opportunity to get covered", Gov. John Carney said.
While prices have stabilized, they are still 134 percent higher than the low opening-year premiums of 2014, but experts say they think enrollment will stabilize along with the market this year.
"We are committed to helping to protect people with preexisting conditions and continuing to advocate for our customers to have the best health insurance options at the lowest possible rates through DC Health Link", said Mila Kofman, executive director of the DC Health Benefit Exchange Authority.
Americans with incomes between 138 percent and 400 percent of the federal poverty level may qualify for federal subsidies to help pay for health insurance. That includes financial assistance for people who qualify for things like Advance Premium Tax Credits (APTCs), which lower the cost of premiums. We'll also help with re-enrollment.
Consumers should contact licensed insurance agents or company representatives for assistance in considering 2019 plan coverage.
Two insurers - Delta Dental of Delaware, Inc. and Dominion Dental Services, Inc. - will offer a collective 11 stand-alone dental plans on the Marketplace. All marketplace plans are exclusive provider organizations (EPOs), meaning they do not provide out-of-network benefits, with few exceptions.
The overall current average monthly premium in DE is $750, with the average premium reduced to $223 per month after tax credit. "Consumers who choose short-term plans over traditional plans are rolling the dice a bit", McCostlin says. For the 82 percent of Delawareans who now receive financial assistance, the average premium after tax credit is $122 per month. "The plan you have might cost more or less this year".
Financial help is available for individuals with annual incomes up to $48,560; for a family of four the income limit is $100,400.
Louisiana residents who rely on Obamacare for health insurance have through December 15 to enroll for the coming year.
If someone calls about offering health insurance policies, be wary if they say they represent the "national enrollment center", the "national health care center", or any other official-sounding name. For 2018, the maximum penalty will not exceed $2,085 per household.
