If Bell doesn't indicate his intention to sign his $14.45 million franchise tag by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, he will be ineligible to play the remainder of the season. But if Bell wants to get the contract he's looking for, there's a pretty good chance that's what he'll have to settle for.
"I didn't have to prove anything", Lewis said. "It was a cool experience, but I'd trade it all for a win".
Rocky franchise-tag negotiations created distance between Bell and the Steelers. Once again, the player and team failed to agree to a long-term deal.
Although things didn't work out in New England, Lewis received a four-year, $19.8 million deal from the Titans and has been a solid addition to this point in his first season in Tennessee. "Blessed to walk away with it unharmed, so thankful for that".
When it came to playing, Le'Veon Bell opted for pickup basketball over professional football.
The Steelers drafted Bell with the 48th overall pick in the 2013 draft, won over by his youth, size and versatility.
Bell has held out the first 10 weeks of the National Football League season and in his stead, Steelers running back James Conner has been stellar.
"I'm not going to comment on someone who's not in this locker room right now", quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said when asked about Bell after Thursday's 52-21 win over the Carolina Panthers. "When you go cheap, you get your ass kicked".
Only he didn't. And when preparations for Pittsburgh's Week 1 trip to Cleveland began without Bell, several of his teammates, particularly the offensive line, vented their frustrations publicly. "I give them credit, they beat us".
Bell, who will turn 27 in February, had been training in South Florida and in July tweeted this season would be his "best to date". Everyone is waiting to see if Bell will return to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday. But ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported this past weekend that Bell was unlikely to show.
