The Supreme Court'ss 5-4 conservative majority was restored last month when the US Senate confirmed Donald Trump's appointee Brett Kavanaugh after a contentious nomination process in which Mr Kavanaugh faced an accused of sexual assault stemming from the 1980s. Ginsburg was hospitalized Thursday morning for three broken ribs. Over the summer, she admitted that she planned to serve on the Supreme Court for at least five more years.
"I understand a lot of conservatives don't like Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg because of her politics, but her friendship with Justice Antonin Scalia was handsome".
Mayor Bill de Blasio wished the New York City native a "speedy recovery".
"If Ruth Bader Ginsburg needs any of my bones or internal organs I don't need mine", she joked.
If the president has the opportunity to fill Ms Ginsburg's seat because she resigns or dies, the change would be a nightmare scenario for Democrats.
"I pray for Ruth Bader Ginsberg every day", Democratic Senator Bob Menendez said Sunday.
White House counselor Kellyanne Conway said Thursday that Ginsburg is "a very tough woman" and that she's "praying for her".
"The biggest issue in anyone with a rib fracture is the pain and the impact on lung function", said CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta.
At 85, Bader Ginsburg, far left, is the oldest member of the court and the leader of its liberal wing.
Leading this project, she successfully argued six landmark cases before the Supreme Court.
Sadly, Ruth has struggled with her health for years.
