In a statement on Saturday, Trump again referenced the Bush's "thousand points of light" speech and said the former president "inspired generations of his fellow Americans to public service".

During his four years in the White House, Bush ended the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait, steered the United States through the end of the Cold War and condemned China's 1989 crackdown on pro-democracy demonstrators in Beijing's Tiananmen Square.
Bush, 94, died Friday.
Like Bush, Dole is a World War II veteran.
"He was a handsome, lovely man, it was an honour to work with him, he was beloved", veteran Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, expected to be the next speaker of the US House of Representatives, told Reuters as she exited the Rotunda. Trump himself has criticized the elder Bush on the campaign trail.
Fred Curry, one of the few African-Americans in line, is a registered Democrat from Hyattsville, Maryland, who voted for Bush in 1988, the election won by the one-term president.
All USPS facilities will also fly a flag at half-staff through December 30 in honor of Bush.
The national funeral service capped three days of remembrance in Washington before Bush's remains return to Texas on Wednesday for burial Thursday. He had joined the Navy when he turned 18. Bush enrolled at Yale University after military service, becoming a scholar-athlete and captaining the baseball team to two College World Series before graduating Phi Beta Kappa after just 2½ years. He would go on to serve as ambassador to the United Nations and China, head of the Central Intelligence Agency and chairman of the Republican National Committee before being elected to two terms as Ronald Reagan's vice president. Trump did not shake hands with Bill and Hillary Clinton, who looked straight ahead.
