Brown reportedly missed Week 17 against the Bengals after a dispute with Ben Roethlisberger, which included chucking a ball at one of his teammates (likely Big Ben himself). He said Brown had soreness in his knee, ankle and feet last week, so he was sent for an MRI on the knee Friday.
Tomlin said he didn't play Brown because of a "lack of communication" between the sides leading up to the game.
Brown's behavior on social media has been contradictory to what Tomlin stated on Wednesday.
But more details about that incident have leaked, with NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reporting that after the dustup Brown yelled something like "I'm done, why don't you just trade me already".
According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, Brown has requested a trade from the Steelers.
"Brown was trying to prove a point that the team would struggle without him: If JuJu Smith-Schuster can win the team MVP and get significant targets, see what happens when I'm not there?" He can make plays all over the field, and his speed allows him to rack up yards after the catch. Tomlin was called by Brown's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, Sunday morning to tell the coach his star receiver was ready to play after missing Saturday's walk-throughs.
A Steelers football player left his team's game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday at halftime due to an alleged disagreement with another player. He didn't come right out and say there will be changes on the coaching staff but you have to assume not everyone will be back. "I consider him one of my closer friends". "If there was a blowout, I certainly didn't see it", said Roethlisberger, who talked to Brown Thurs AM and "everything was great", but understands frustration from Brown being gone late in week.
Tomlin is expected to address the situation during a news conference scheduled for noon ET Wednesday.
