Google has some bright new ideas for the Google Assistant over 2019. You can also ask for things like news and weather which will show on your TV, and your connected smart home devices will work with the Hopper as well - assuming they are compatible with Google Assistant, of course.
As part of a spate of announcements Tuesday, Google unveiled a new platform called Google Assistant Connect that is created to make it easier for device makers to build cheap devices that perform specific functions controlled by and integrated with the Google Assistant.
Background: This isn't Google's first go at real-time translation.
What stood out most to me during my brief demo was just how much Google has been able to simplify the complex task of interpretation.
The company has since begun a private beta test of the Assistant with select Sonos owners, and is looking to scale up the beta test to thousands of homes in the weeks following CES, a spokesperson told Variety Monday.
"And when you're driving, the Assistant automatically calculates your ETA from Google Maps if you want to send your arrival time to friends". "Just say "Hey Google, be my French interpreter" to start "Interpreter Mode" and get real-time spoken and (on Smart Displays) written translation to aid the conversation", Manuel Bronstein, Vice President of Product, Google Assistant, wrote in a blog post late on Tuesday.
Google may be expanding the powers of its digital assistant for home devices and automotive accessories, but it hasn't forgotten about the smartphone. Among the new features is the Google Assistant's Interpreter Mode as well as fresh integration in the Google Maps apps on Android and iOS. What's more, the Assistant will even auto-punctuate your messages now, so you don't have to dictate punctuation marks as well.
Discussing the new feature, Google said: "Speaking a different language no longer has to be a barrier to having a good conversation".
The flight check-in works if you have a flight confirmation in your Gmail. You will also have access to the usual set of Google Assistant features.
"We see this technology expanding to more places - it could help you check in at a foreign hotel or help you understand the bus schedule".
