Dwayne Haskins, after tossing 50 touchdowns and finishing third in the Heisman voting in his first season as the Buckeyes' starter, announced Monday that he will forgo his final two seasons of collegiate eligibility and declare for the 2019 National Football League draft.
It has been documented that in September, during a game against Tennessee, a Georgia baseball player allegedly shouted racial slurs at Fields.
"The thing about Ryan Day, in speaking with Dwayne in terms about how Ryan Day helped his development, is the offense at Ohio State", Avery told Lettermen Row. Some reports have indicated that Fields to Ohio State is a done deal, and if it's not yet, it seems like it eventually will be. Tate Martel and Matthew Baldwin appear to be Fields' strongest competition on the Ohio State depth chart if he is granted immediate eligibility. Fields announced the transfer after he was expected to visit the Ohio State campus earlier Friday.
NCAA rules would require Fields to sit out next season if he transfers, though he could request a waiver to become immediately eligible. He came to Athens thinking he could beat out Jake Fromm.
Haskins finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting this past season as a redshirt sophomore, throwing 50 touchdown passes and leading the Buckeyes to a 13-1 record and a victory in the Rose Bowl. He threw for 328 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions.
"Any time you get a win in this league right now, it's something", Michigan State Spartans coach Tom Izzo said.
The Telegraph has reached out to the University of Georgia and Ohio State for confirmation but have not received a response at this time.
